Recent Fiji & ImageJ2 presentations

From March 15-27, Grant Harris and I attended a Fiji hackathon at EMBL in Heidelberg. It was a fantastic experience—we learned a lot about Fiji, got to meet many of Fiji's outstanding developers in person, and got in some solid hacking time.

Initial Trac tickets

We are done filing an initial set of Trac tickets for the ImageJDev project. We have defined five initial milestones:

  1. Progress report, for 7/1/2010
  2. ImageJ 2.0 beta, for 1/1/2011
  3. ImageJ 2.0 release, for 7/1/2011
  4. ImageJ 2.5, for 1/1/2012
  5. ImageJ 3.0+, no release date

ImageJ development discussion

Recently there has been a large amount of discussion about ImageJ development. This dialogue has been great, but in a few cases similar points have been sprinkled across several different threads. I have filtered through the recent threads of interest (within the past 2-3 months) and have identified a few key topics. To better organize the discussion, I am creating new threads, one per topic, and sending each to the appropriate mailing list:

Grant proposal

I have posted the technical portion of the full grant proposal. It goes into a bit more detail about our development strategy, although there are still many fine-grained technical aspects to consider. Ultimately, the project will coalesce through community discussion and focused effort of the development team.
